This girl, she’s kind of amazing. She just turned four and has a lot to learn about the world, but I think she has a lot to teach as well. Everyday she shows me her huge heart and what it means to love. She’s wild, fun and goofy, lovely, graceful and shy. She greets each day with a smile and doesn’t say goodnight easily. She loves to be in the center of it all, usually with an easy laugh or an idea. She has so much to do.
She loves the beach. It’s not the water or the sun or sand, it’s everything all together, the motion of the wind and waves, the way the ocean washes clean her footprints and sprays her face with salt. It’s the way the beach comes with you, like it or not, usually stuck in your swimsuit and on the backs of your legs, the scent of sunscreen lingering long after your bath. The beach, like my Alice, makes you feel like exploring, like anything is possible.
Happy fourth birthday, my baby. Always be exactly who you are.
